After a very hot summer day, imagine yourself at night, in the middle of a field,
some haystacks to sit on, a few planks of wood on the dusty ground. It is a starry
night, 30º C, and for lighting there are a few log-fires on the ground, surrounded
with stones. The darkness is such you can barely see the water and the valley, and
the stars are bright. The silence is absolute. The guitar preludes, the magic
commences, a man sings, slowly, "cante jondo", deep chant, the sensation is unforgettable.

The setting above is as authentic as one can represent the mythical living culture of
Andalusia. This setting - at night, in the summer, literally "in the middle of the
fields" or in the middle of nowhere, for that matter, is as far removed from the canned
tourist experience of being in a flamenco show-theater in the city. Nevertheless,
there are a myriad of flavours that can be brought up in a flamenco party. Just to
take the dancing aspect, you
|
can appreciate the flamenco girls dancing the folkloric
"Sevillanas", or the slower, more electrifying "Bulerías", or the thrilling of the
"taconeo" (tip-tapping), which is a rhythmic tour-de-force. The music can range also,
from a mix of (locally) well known sevillanas, rumbas, designed to dance merrily, to
the more purist traits of flamenco, turning the event into more of a concert to
appreciate the sensation of singing and the virtuosity of the guitars.

Pricing
Costs for a flamenco party vary according to the day of the year, and to
the particular configuration: how many singers, guitarrists and dancers will
be performing, and also if it will be one 45 min show, or two, or a
"till it lasts" party. The prices have to be arranged on a per-event basis,
and range from a minimum of 1000 Euros for a group of three musicians, to
around 4,000 Euros for the most complete of setups.
